Why is there so much buzz about flaxseeds lately?

Why it’s a super food:

  • Flaxseed is packed with omega-3 fatty acids.
  • Flaxseeds are packed with soluble fiber which may help aid digestion.
  • Flaxseeds also contain insoluble fiber which may help stabilize blood sugar levels.
  • Flaxseeds can be ground up and added to yogurt, oatmeal, pancakes, and other foods.  Whole flaxseeds can be added on top of salads!

Here’s a great smoothie recipe that incorporates flaxseeds:

Ingredients:

1 Cup blueberries

1 Banana

1 Tablespoon ground flaxseed

1/2 Cup plain low-fat yogurt

1 Cup skim milk

1 Teaspoon honey

Directions: Blend all ingredients together until smooth.  Serve cold.  Serves one.
