I am super stoked because a few weeks ago a friend mentioned to me that I should be join the NYCC.org and do one of their SIG’s. SIG stands for Special Interest Group and every spring they offer their members the opportunity to participate in their free progressive training programs. All the programs are run by awesome and amazing experienced ride leaders and you are put into groups based on your time.
Last Saturday they had their timed laps, but I wasn’t able to do the laps that day because of a silly fluke with my bike. Along with the ride, you also get a weekly seminar. So awesome!!! So I did the seminar and hit my laps on Sunday. I had to do three timed laps around Central Park on my bike. Now, it had been a damn long time since I was on my bike and and I had NEVER done three full laps before (18 miles), so I was hoping for under 2 hours. I did it in just under one hours and 23 minutes. I was shocked. Also, it was BEYOND FREEZING. Like so damn cold, but I took the advice from the NYCC seminar that I went to the day before and dressed appropriately, so it wasn’t that bad at all.
Yesterday, I received the email from my leader and I will be in the B16 group. We will be taking rides all over New Jersey, Rockland County, Westchester and beyond~!HOW ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!!
Not only will I become a better cyclist, but I’m going to learn new routes and new and amazing places to go.
I truly cannot be more excited.
NYCC is an incredible organization and if you are in NY, I REALLY suggest you check it out. They have ever had people from Maryland and beyond be a part of it and come down on the weekends JUST to ride with them.
I can’t wait to tell you ALL about the rides!
This year’s SIG rides are closed for any new participants, but you should DEFINITELY do it next year if you have the chance.
