Then when I got to meet her in person I fell in love with her energy and persona. What inspired you to become a trainer/instructor?
When I was fifteen, I injured my back and suffered pain throughout high school and college. After taking private Pilates with my aunt, Janice Dulak, I was pain-free for the first time in seven years and knew I had to continue to practice and teach the method. Pilates transformed me from a limited, cranky body into a free-moving youthful spirit. My passion and drive is to help others find this transformation.
Where do you train/teach?
I instruct private clients in Manhattan and Brooklyn (in-home and at the Pilates House) and through my online company, MyBOD™ Wellness, which offers private Pilates and Yoga sessions through Skype, FaceTime and Google+. My online clients are all over the map: in California, Israel, Georgia, Texas, and NYC among other locations. So, I basically teach all over the world!
What inspires you most about your clients?
I am daily inspired by the laughter, love and hard work my clients give in our sessions – whether I see them in person or online. My clients range in age from 13 to 80 and are a diverse bunch – from wheel-chair bound to marathon-running, pre-natal to menopausal. All of them are brilliant and FUN!
What do you love most about your job?
I love that I get to interact with amazing people everyday. I get to watch them shift and grow and sweat and let go. I also love that my work is focused on movement and health. I like shaking up the average day of a sedentary person or winding down the crazy day of an on-the-go soul.
What is your advice for someone looking to get started on a better diet and/or fitness plan?
First things first: make time and space for your health. Write it down on your calendar and keep your date with yourself! Motivate yourself by buying a new pair of tennis shoes or setting a date with a friend who you will meet with you to workout. And value the small steps. Walking for 10 minutes is better than not moving at all. Doing only 3 minutes of sit ups a day can change your life!
What are some of the motivational tools you use in your life each day to stay healthy?
I motivate myself by picking activities I love to stay healthy. I love walking, so I take epic walks on the weekend by myself. It’s both a meditation and exercise. I do the things I mentioned above: I set healthy dates with myself, buy fun motivating items to get me moving and make active dates with friends.
If you could work with ANYONE in the world who would it be?
Michelle Obama, of course! She is a powerhouse – a strong, gorgeous woman who stands tall and presents herself with elegance. You can tell she is physically intelligent and I’m sure she would work hard but have a lot of fun.
It’s Friday night, your best friends are all ready to meet you out and you don’t have to work tomorrow, where are you going and what are you doing?
I’m a huge fan of dinner parties – I love going out, but I love sharing cooking ideas and stringing up lights in the backyard or on the roof for a long evening of good food, wine and conversation. And I love it when it turns into a dance party.. my friends and I are pretty good at making that happen 🙂
