As One

Fit-Journey-take-the-stairs

It’s funny that we have an article coming out today called “Take the Stairs” because the very first time I stepped foot off the elevator to As One, I saw George Vafiades ten feet from me in a T-shirt that said “Take The Stairs” and I never took that damn elevator up there again (& I also take the stairs now more than before in general).  It’s amazing how something, like someone you look up to wearing a T-shirt, can change your mentality on something bigger.

Oh As One, how I love you and everything you’re about.  You know, it is impressive, there are so many gyms out there.  There are gyms started by brilliant business men and women who build incredible facilities with amazing instructors and staff, there are Gyms started by people who have an amazing dream, but not always the exact know-how.  I’ve been to gyms that I’m scared to workout in because I don’t feel like they’re safe, I’ve been in classes where I feel like the trainer is more worried about how s/he looks in the mirror than about how the class is doing and I’ve been to gyms where trainers obviously took a three week course somewhere and then read the rest of their knowledge from a bunch of weird websites.

Then I went to As One.  To me, As One to me is the MENSA of gyms.  It utilizes the basic fundamentals of our beings and makes an incredible & tough, yet brilliant work out.  Mark Merchant and George Vafiades understand the body.  Period.  They understand and preach the use of working your entire system, saying “all systems must be challenged in order to stimulate the body to optimize its defense against the aging processes and develop its full athletic potential.”

When I first started training 15 years ago it was all about getting as cute and skinny as possible, now it is a completely different world.  I am so incredibly excited to get stronger.  The next few months I will be training 4-5 days/week with As One as well as George will be helping me with my Tri-sprint training.  I’m thrilled to do more pushups and burpees than I was able to do the time before.  I’m excited to be able to watch myself go further, run farther, feel better.  The possibilities are endless and I am so thrilled to have found a place like As One to help me along with my journey.  As One clients, along with Mark and George, are motivating and inspirational and I will definitely be letting you know about my training there.

xx

Even when she lost her way from it, she was always constantly motivated by athletes and anything movement oriented around her. She is the type of person who only gets star struck by people like Gabby Douglas, Matt Long, Pat Riley or Kerri Walsh and the thought of meeting any of them puts her stomach in little girly teenage knots. Favorite workouts: Bootcamps, Spinning, swimming and lifting alone with my headphone on.
