Nothing Like A Fresh Start.

2014.

A clean, fresh slate.  I spent so much of 2013 thinking ahead.  Planning what weeks and months ahead would be like for me when I reached my goals.  So this year I’ve made a choice which is a huge change for me, to live each day.  I think it will be easier to tackle this way. Of course I have goals and dreams.  Things like running my first marathon, moving to a new part of the city, and vacationing with my girlfriend.  But each of these things will only happen if I live in each day.  I think my blog posts will be more in the moment as well.  Telling you all about a workout I love, or a new favorite piece of running gear.  Of course there will be the occasional look back, especially when these goals are achieved, but for the most part my blog will live day to day, just like me! Starting with today’s post about my forced treadmill run this morning :).

Four Miles on the treadmill. I have to admit I hated it.  Every single moment.  I’m not really sure how its possible that I LOVE running outside so much but hate it so much on the treadmill.  Anyway, it was day two of my training so I had to get it in.  Just in case you haven’t heard, it was 9 degrees in NYC today, with a real feel of -15, so running outside was completely out of the question.  If you struggle with running on the treadmill too, here’s some things that helped me get through today:

1. I picked a time to run when I knew a show I like was on (Kelly and Michael of course!)
2. I created my own intervals by doing things like adding and taking away speed and incline.
3. I listened to music and told myself not to look back at the time that was left until the song was over.

I’m sure there are tons of other ways to make running on the treadmill more tolerable.  I’ve read from some other bloggers that they actually are able to do their long runs this way! While I’m far from that, I’m hoping that I can keep finding more ways to make indoor running as much of a love as outdoor running, because it is a necessary evil for me sometimes.  If you have any thoughts I’d love to hear them!
